Spring in Geiranger – the wild meets the calm
The spring in Geiranger is spectacular. Snow-covered mountain peaks meet raging waterfalls, and the fjord lies deep and blue between steep mountain sides. The melting water gives new life to the landscape, and the forces of nature show their most dramatic side. This is the time for contrasts – between the raw and the quiet, the powerful and the peaceful.
In the middle of this landscape lies Hotel Union – a warm and calm base for experiences. Here you start your day with a view of the fjord, venture out on adventures in the mountains and at sea, and return to wellness, good flavors, and rest.
Experience the fjord up close
In spring, the waterfalls are at their most powerful. The snowmelt fills rivers and waterfalls, and the fjord reveals an extra dramatic side.
RIB safari
With an open RIB boat, you get close to nature. You feel the sea spray, hear the waterfalls booming, and experience the iconic waterfalls up close.
Fjord cruise
A calmer alternative is a fjord cruise through the World Heritage Area. Here you glide past steep mountain sides, mountain farms, and famous waterfalls like the Seven Sisters – surrounded by snow-covered peaks and clear spring air.

Spring in the mountains
Geiranger offers a wide range of hiking opportunities.
Summit ski tour
In the highlands, the snow often lasts well into spring. Going on a summit tour here provides a truly special experience – long descents with views over the fjord.

Snowshoeing
For a calmer journey in the winter landscape, snowshoeing is a great alternative. Walk through quiet, snow-covered areas and enjoy the views at your own pace.
Waterfall hiking and trails
When the snow melts in the lowlands, the trails around the village open. Waterfall hiking and other organized tours give you the most powerful nature experiences of spring up close.
Viewpoints and nature experiences
Visit iconic viewpoints like Flydalsjuvet or drive the winding roads up to Ørnevegen.
Vesterås waterfall is also a must-visit after the snow has started to melt, and you can feel the pulse from the waterfall by walking behind it.
On Geiranger Skywalk – Dalsnibba, 1500 meters above sea level, you get one of Europe's highest fjord views from the road. The road usually opens from mid-May and remains open throughout the summer season, depending on snow conditions.
In spring, winter and summer meet in a dramatic panorama of snow, mountains, and deep blue fjord. And gradually the mountain sides become greener and the steep fields open for sheep and goats grazing.
