Day 1: Geiranger – and Union Hotel
The journey starts in Geiranger – at the traditional Hotel Union.
Hotel Union Geiranger was built in 1891, but has since been expanded, with a modern conference and meeting area, swimming pool, new top floor with 13 suites, vintage car exhibition, nightclub, spa area, and constantly new offerings both indoors and outdoors. The strong Union atmosphere of quality and service over generations is still maintained and carried on by today's hosts.
The unique natural surroundings of Geirangerfjord were created through a series of ice ages when glaciers carved out deep fjords between the high mountains. This natural beauty has made the area frequently appear on lists of the most spectacular places in the world. Impressive waterfalls, such as the famous waterfalls The Seven Sisters, The Suitor, and The Bride's Veil, plunge down into the fjord, surrounded by a light mist.
After checking in at Hotel Union Geiranger, it’s nice to take a walk in the small center consisting of boathouses and old wooden houses. Stop by the various small retailers, and taste Geiranger’s own chocolate or other local products.
Day 2: Explore beautiful Geiranger
Start the day with a delicious breakfast before you do exactly what you wish. Here are some suggestions to fill your day:
· Put on your hiking shoes and walk the national hiking trail up Fosseråsa. On the way, you will pass behind Storsæterfossen, which is a great experience. Or how about visiting the famous fjord farm Skageflå? Imagine how everyday life was on these small farms, where the houses almost cling to the cliff face, several hundred meters above the fjord. A steep hike, but we promise – it’s worth it!
· Rent a kayak and see the majestic mountains from a slightly different angle.
· Are you ready for an adrenaline kick? Zip through the air on a zipline, or feel your pulse racing as you climb through wild ravines.
..or you can simply enjoy large parts of the day in the hotel's Bad and Spa:
At Union Bad & Spa, you can relax and enjoy the atmosphere, wellness, and tranquility. Here you will find an indoor swimming pool and relaxation areas with a fireplace, sauna, as well as an outdoor therapy pool with jacuzzi, massage jets, and a cobra. Treatments are not included in the price. Find the one that tempts you the most and book here.
The evening's 3-course dinner is served in a setting with a fantastic view over Geirangerfjord.
Day 3: From Geiranger to Trondheim
Enjoy the buffet breakfast at Hotel Union before you take the drive to Trondheim.
Upon arrival in Trondheim, check in at the luxurious Britannia Hotel.
Britannia Hotel has undergone a comprehensive renovation and has re-emerged as one of Norway's finest hotels. Located in the heart of Trondheim, the hotel has been a historic landmark and icon in the city center. Monarchs and adventurers have visited the hotel throughout history. The restoration of the hotel has preserved the old atmosphere while also giving the hotel a new and modern touch. The handmade beds and beautiful bathrooms crafted with Carrara marble, provide a luxurious touch.
With Norway's finest spa and fitness center, the hotel invites relaxation and recovery. After a day filled with impressions along the way, you can unwind in Britannia Spa, a beautifully decorated, modern, and elegant oasis.
Among their facilities are a heated pool, several saunas, ice baths, a relaxation room, a large gym, and six treatment rooms, to name a few. They offer a comprehensive range of treatments, and book your appointment in advance, either this afternoon or the next day.
The evening meal takes place in one of Britannia's restaurants. The hotel will contact you with the time and place for your dinner reservation. If you are not ready to call it a night yet, we recommend a glass of wine in the Wine Bar with exciting wines from around the world or a stop by Britannia Bar, a timeless and sophisticated cocktail bar.
Day 4: Explore Trondheim
At Britannia, it’s easy to be seduced by all the luxury before you check out. Breakfast can be enjoyed in the venerable Palmehaven. Meat and cheese from local farms are served in small ready-made dishes. In addition, there is a wide selection of coffee from the house’s own barista.
Take a leisurely morning in your room, take the opportunity to use the lovely gym with modern top-quality fitness equipment, or fully enjoy the spa area. Trondheim is rich in cultural experiences and old Norwegian history. Nidaros Cathedral is impressive. Cross the old wooden bridge over to Bakklandet, or book a boat trip out to Munkholmen if the weather allows.
Feel free to extend your stay for several more days and experience the city of Trondheim. Take your time, perhaps several days. There is so much to experience!
String it together with a wonderful journey along The Atlantic Road – a National Tourist Route .
